FREDERICKSBURG, VA-The Men’s and Women’s Super 20 teams are gearing up for a highly competitive 2008 season.
The Super 20 Lady Gunners’ Head Coach Pete Cinalli will look to add more local talent as well as build on some of the successes in 2007. "This year really looks promising going into 2008. We are going to certainly be more competitive and hopefully surprise some people in the process. We will be young, but we will add experienced players to help lead the team." The Super 20 Lady Gunners are coming off a 1-6-1 season and are hopeful in the progress both the team and the club are making. "The team last year did not quite know what to expect. We were in most of our games and only lost by a small margin. I believe this year, knowing what to expect, we can turn some heads." The Super 20’s will add talent from Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Northern Virginia, but the majority of the players will come from right here in Fredericksburg. "We will definatly add players that can play from all over, but one of our main focuses is to bring back the home grown talent that has left us to play elsewhere. They identify with the area and it means more to them to play for their home team. This is the main goal of the overall club system that is in place here. We want to be successful but we also want to develop these players to play for Coach Austin in the W-League."
The Super 20 Gunners are under new management this year. Joe Farrell has been named the Super 20 Head Coach; taking over the reigns from Technical Director Eric Dutt. The Gunners are coming off a dissapointing 3-5 season and will look to rebound. "We felt that by adding Joe, we would continue to enhance our programs and add value to the club. He has tons of experience and is passionate about the game and Virginia Soccer. We are all confident that he is doing to do a great job and take our boys team to a new level," said General Manager Brian Shumate,"We proudly welcome Coach Farrell to the Club." Much the same as the women, the men will look to add a big chunck of talent from right here in Fredericksburg. "I am excited to be here. I believe this team, club, and area has a lot of potential to do some big things in the game. I can’t wait to see what the summer will bring," Coach Farrell, "Its exciting!"
