Bumbut Drafted By Chicago Fire
Gunners' Midfielder Gets A Shot At The Big Time

January 30th, 2008

Fredericksburg, Va. - FC Fredericksburg Gunners midfielder Adrian Bumbut became the first player in franchise history to be drafted in the professional ranks, as he was chosen in the 2nd round of the supplemental draft by MLS’ Chicago Fire.  Bumbut was one of the top players on the Gunners in the 2007 season, scoring 5 goals, 2 assists, and earning All-Conference Honors.  Bumbut was also instrumental in helping Liberty University get to the 2007 NCAA playoffs.

Bumbut will be joining a team with world-class players such as Mexican superstar Cuauhtemoc Blanco and rising U.S. National Team players in Chris Rolfe and Justin Mapp.  Chicago upset DC United in the first round of the MLS playoffs in 2007 before dropping a 1-0 decision to the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Final.  The Fire also have a new coach, as longtime Assistant Denis Hamlet takes over for the departed Juan Carlos Osorio.

Bumbut relishes the opportunity to play at the highest level of soccer in the United States.

" I am very thankful for the opportunity to be with the Fire and I’m excited to start preseason and play next to some world class players."

Gunners PDL Head Coach Cristian Neagu was thrilled about Bumbut’s selection and thinks he will take advantage of his chance.

"Adrian is very talented player, has great character, both on and off the field, and is a great leader. I am confident he will do well in M.L.S."

The FC Fredericksburg Gunners would like to congratulate Bumbut on his selection and are proud of his accomplishments in helping the franchise have such a successful first year.
