2008 Host Family Program
The 2008 Host Family Program is now underway and the F.C. Fredericksburg Gunners are looking for good families to host players, both male and female, from colleges all over the country. These player will come from all 50 states as well as countries from around the world. Players will arrive in Mid-May and will stay until the end of July. In 2007, multiple families took players in and the program was a huge success. In 2008, the Gunners will need additional families to take players in and play host for the season. This is a great opportunity to expose your family and your player to athletes that currently participate in the NCAA Collegiate Program. Players will be able to interact both personally and professionally with your family, informing and educating what all they had to do to make it to the next level. Last year, players came from Liberty University, George Mason University, Radford University, and other colleges from the Region. This year players will come from similar Universities, as well as foreign players from other countries, to compete with the Gunners for a PDL and W-League Conference Championship.
Benefits of the program:
  • Exposure to a top collegiate athlete for your child to associate with
  • A great role model, for both soccer and personally
  • Free Season Tickets to all PDL or W-League Games
  • One Free Week of Camp (does not include the Super Y Academy)
  • One Autographed ball by the players team
  • Two Gunners T-Shirts
  • The Players own jersey at season’s end
Player’s Needs:
  •  A suitable space for the player to live in for the summer
  • Their own bed
  • Basic Amenities
It will be necessary to:
  • Communicate basic house rules for your player to abide by
  • Agree on what type of compensation for food and meals (if any)
  • Communicate what type of transportation the player will have
It will not be necessary to:
  • Provide Meals for the player
  • Provide Transportation for the player
Each family and player will be responsible for communicating the type of arrangement that will best suit your family and your player. The Gunners are able to assist in any way the transition for the player into the home, but it will be necessary to communicate with your player regarding certain issues.
If this program is something you and your family are interested in, please email (For Lady Gunners) Gerry Austin at gaustin@fcfred.com and (for Gunners) Cristian Neagu at cneagu@fcfred.com, with the subject line 2008 Host Family Program. The Gunners will be arranging host families with players as early as January. This will allow ample time for the player and the family to have correspondence prior to arriving in Fredericksburg in the Summer of 2008.
This is a great opportunity for your family to experience first hand the culture and diversity that each player will bring to the area. It will be a neat experience living day to day with the player and then being able to witness them participating in one of the highest levels of soccer in the country.
For additional information please contact Gerry Austin at gaustin@fcfred.com and he will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you for considering the host family program in 2008.
