Mohammed Girls Look For Olympic Bid
Twins To Play For Trinidad & Tobago

You would think that winning a National Championship would be enough for some people.  Not so for FC Fredericksburg Lady Gunners stars Marissa and Maria Mohammed, who graduated from North Stafford high school and are regarded as two of the better women’s players to come out of the Fredericksburg area.

The twins, who won the Women’s Championship in December for the Division 2 Tampa Spartans, will try to build on their success as they try to capture an Olympic berth by playing for their home country of Trinidad & Tobago in the upcoming CONCACAF tournament.  T&T qualified for the chance to qualify following a 2-2 aggregate series against Puerto Rico.  T&T advanced on the away goals rule.

The tournament, which will run from April 2-13, and will feature 6 teams.  The top 2 teams will advance to the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, in September of this year.  T&T’s opponents will be the defending CONCACAF champion United States, as well as Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, and Jamaica.

Lady Gunners GM Brian Shumate said "What a remarkable opportunity this is for the twins to be able to compete against the world’s best.  No doubt they will see some of the top American ladies as well as others from around the world.  A great thing for them personally, their school, their family, the Gunners, and Fredericksburg.  They are truly having a remarkable year."

Lady Gunners Coach Gerry Austin added "I’m so proud of these girls.  All of their hard work and dedication has paid off, and we’re very lucky to have them representing our organization."

The FC Lady Gunners will open their second season beginning in May.  The full schedule will be released to the public soon.
